“The way he captained …”: Kapil Dev on Rohit Sharma’s Test Retirement

Very few people in India can claim to play cricket and captain the national team like Rohit Sharma, said that batting Ustad said that batting maestro announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. The 38 -year -old was India’s most vigilant testing batsman in the second half of his career, scoring 4301 runs in 67 tests and an average of 12 hundreds and 18 half a centuries of 40.57. In a special interview with PTI video, Kapil said, “He did a wonderful job, playing good cricket. In the period of time, the way he operated himself, the way he did cotton and most importantly is that the way he played his cricket – because in India, very few people played cricket in this way.”
“I congratulate him for a wonderful career.” After the World Cup last year already retired from T20 International, Rohit will now be seen only in the ODI format.
“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It is a full honor to represent his country in whites,” he posted on Instagram with a photo of his Test cap after PTI’s newsbreak on Wednesday.
Rohit’s retirement from the traditional format means that India will have to name a new full-time captain immediately after the end of IPL 2025, India’s five-observance series in England is scheduled to begin in Headingley on 20 June.
Asked who is the best candidate to lead the Indian Test team in the coming years, Kapil said that it is the job of the selectors to choose the captain.
“Some things and responsibilities should be left to the selectors. They will find the new captain. We should not give our views a lot because the selectors have their work, and when it is about Team India, they will do their work with responsibility.
He said, “Whoever he brings as captain will be the best for Team India. However, it is difficult to replace Rohit, someone will have to take this responsibility.”
Rohit also told that he will continue to play ODI format, which is going to be the next World Cup in 2027.
Kapil said that it is good that Rohit is still hungry to play a game of 50 overs.
“Everyone wants to play cricket – Sachin, Gavaskar, everyone wanted to play. But then, it also depends on the selectors. It is good that he wants to play. Everyone wants to play the World Cup and win, but some things should be left for the selectors.” Speaking of the emergence of young talents in IPL 2025, Kapil emphasized the need to be patient and protect them.
“We need to give some time to these youth. Talent is there, but will they make it big … I think they need a little more time. These youth should be preserved.
He said, “We need to see and identify who the next Sachin Tendulkar, the next Sunil Gavaskar or the next Rohit Sharma. The future will tell,” he concluded.
