Punjab Kings have confirmed that all -rounder Mitchell Owen has joined the squad before starting IPL 2025 on Friday. Owen, who was signed as a replacement of the injured Glenn Maxwell, was signed for the remaining of the tournament earlier this month for Rs 3 crore. He has played 34 T20s and scored 646 runs, including two centuries and the highest score of 108. Owen also has 10 T20 wickets. He was part of PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi before joining the IPL side.
In his PSL debut season, Owen scored 102 runs in eight innings at the electric strike rate of 192.45.
The 23 -year -old became unusable in last year’s IPL mega auction, but made a stunning comeback in this January by digging his name in the history of the Big Bash League. He matched the record of Craig Semans for the fastest BBL Century, scoring 108 off just 42 balls, including 11 sixes, taking Hobart Hurricane to his first title.
Building his BBL heroes, he scored 149 runs in 69 delivery for Tasmania in a day cup. His explosive form has since attracted the interest of the franchise, making him a contract in both SA20 and PSL.
With seven of the 11 matches, PBKs currently sit in third place on the points table and are well deployed for the playoff push. They will take Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.
The Punjab squad has reached Jaipur and will resume the practice on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Australian pair of all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and wicketkeeper-boss Josh Iglis are expected to join PBK for their struggle against Delhi Capital (DC) to be played on May 24 in Jaipur, calling IANS on Thursday.
