Compulsory Credit: Katie Strateman-Imagon Picture Hunter Goodman scored a tiebracing run on a wild pitch in the eighth innings, and Colorado Rockies carried out Cincinnati Reds 3–2 in a three-game series opener on Friday night.
The victory draws a three-game losing streak for Rockies, which are 22–72 and are at the speed of breaking modern records for the most damage in the season set by Chicago White Socks last year.
Ryan McMahon hit a two-run homer in the fourth for Colorado, which improved 3-7 this month and 15–39 under interim manager Warren Shefer.
Noelvi Marte Homered and TJ Freidle had RBI groundout for Reds, who lost for the sixth time in 10 matches this month.
Goodman, Rockies Lone Representative in next week’s all-star game, launched the game winning rally against Tony Saintsan (1-3), running with one of which. Jordan Beck chased with a single and Michael Toglia hit McMahon before taking him out of Sentillan. Goodman ran the wild pitch of Sentylon on four pitches at home later.
Jake Bird (3–1) won the seventh despite allowing game-hang runs. Juan Mejia threw a hitless eighth position and Victor Vodnik earned his second sev in the ninth when he recorded three strikes. Vodnik gave a leadoff double to the Santiago Aspinal and deliberately ran Elly de La Cruise with two outsiders before killing Austin Hayes.
McMahon had three hits out of six hits in Colorado, while Marte had 2 -for -3 for Reds.
Neither the starter decided after a solid six-inning performance.
Rockies’ German Marx gave eight hits and one run for three runs, while out of eight. Reds Ruki Chase Burns, while launching his fourth Major League, hit a career-high 10 and allowed two runs on three walks. Six innings were also the largest for Burns.
