Test returns on fault for India’s collapse and Karun Nair’s duck on Gill-Mumbir?

Welcome to our special section, DRS or daily review system. In this, Insidesport will provide you with top cricket stories a day in advance, which you must have missed the movement of your busy life.
India suffered an epic collapse in Headingley on the second day of the India vs England Test series. Karun Nair was part of it and scored a duck on his Test return. Were Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill at fault for the collapse? Jasprit Bumrah saved Team India from trouble again and broke a record on the way. As did Rishabh Pant, albeit with the bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set to score two more hundreds in England. And Angelo Mathews has retired from Test cricket.

Bumrah, the greatest Asian pacer
Jasprit Bumrah or nothing. That was the story in Headingley. The pacer got three wickets, but three catches were dropped of his bowling, and he got a wicket on a no-ball as well. One of them, Ollie Pope, continues to be present at the crease after the second day. However, the wicket of Ben Duckett means that Bumrah now holds the record of having the most wickets of any Asian bowler in SENA countries.

Pant out because of Gill & Gambhir?
Rishabh Pant has scored his 7th Test hundred and what a time to do it. By doing so, Pant has broken a couple of records. He now holds the record for most hundreds by an Indian wicketkeeper and most runs by an Asian wicketkeeper in SENA countries. However, it was his dismissal that also became a talking point. Dinesh Karthik suggested that Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill may have played a part in Pant getting out by sending him a message moments before lunch was taken. This means they played a part in India’s collapse as well.

Karun Nair scores duck on comeback
‘Dear cricket, give me a chance.’ This is what Karun Nair wrote in December 2022. Finally, he got his chance. It was 430/4 when Nair entered Headingley. The platform to score was set. But cricket gods weren’t in his favour. Like debutant Sai Sudharsan, Nair messed up his opportunity as well, scoring a 4-ball duck. He might get a second chance and would hope to make it count.

India’s epic collapse in Headingley
471, that’s how many Team India ended up posting on the board despite starting the day at 359/3. This is the lowest total in Test history when three batters have scored hundreds in the same innings. At one point, India was 430/3. From there, the hosts lost 7 wickets for 41 runs.

Jaiswal prediction for IND vs ENG
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s childhood coach Jwala Singh thinks that his protégé will hit at least two more hundreds in the remainder of the India vs England Test series, as he’s mentally tough. Jaiswal had scored a hundred in Headingley in what was his first match in England.

Angelo Mathews’ Test retirement
One of Sri Lanka’s greatest Test cricketers has retired. Angelo Mathews has bid the longest format adieu in Galle. Playing against Bangladesh, Mathews scored 39 and 8 in his final Test outings. The match ended in a draw, as rain played spoilsport. But Mathews got the chance to retire at home, unlike several other greats of the game.
