Team India ruined Kuldeep Yadav on the bench, the reluctance of playing wrist-spinners needs to go away

Kuldeep Yadav played his first Test in 2017, and has only played only 13, coming to army countries in only two matches.

Once, India proud of the quality of spinners produced by them. Through the 60s and 70s, if the team plays in the Army countries, or the West Indies, their attack will mostly include three or four spinners. Of those spinners, the wrist-spin was an art mastered by very few people who are unfortunately facing a huge decline these days.

Writing-spinners wicket-taking weapons

Ever since Anil Kumble went away from the scene, Team India did not get a regular leg-spinner, which could serve him for a long time. Despite his abilities to take rare wickets in any part of the world. For example, consider only army countries – and Kumble, out of their 619 wickets, took 141 wickets there.

BS Chandrashekhar had 71 wickets in the army-out of 242. Therefore, the principle that leg-spinners are not effective in those situations may not be completely true. If we look somewhere else, Shane Warne took 558 wickets in the army. If we leave him too, Richie Benod had 159 wickets, Stuart McGill had 135.

No regular bowlers since Anil Kumble

But in the last 10-15 years, India has lost confidence in wrist-spinners, or at least it seems that there is a case from outside. You have a Uber-Pratibha player in Kuldeep Yadav who has played only 13 matches in his eight-year long career, two alone in two army. Among the previous teams, there was a certain Amit Mishra who played 22 matches in a career of only 13 years. In the army – he played two.

Kuldeep Yadav should get his reason

In the ongoing India-England series, in the first Test itself, it is clear that visitors require Jasprit Bumrah as well as more attacker options, which may find it difficult to regularly get wickets-which may find it difficult for other pacers and Jadeja to get wickets. And so, this is the place where leg-spinner/chinaman is required. And with Kuldeep Yadav in the squad .. He can fix that difference brilliantly.

But this will happen, once the team management starts showing some confidence in this craft and bowlers. The pattern for a very long time has suggested India’s reluctance to play them – mostly because they are more expensive than conservative spinners – but then that thinking, if changed, can hold the team in good positions. In addition, many people around the world are used to play wrist-spinners with red balls, to have an idea for the future.
