The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the annual central contracts for the 2024–25 season, marked the return of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, which was released out of the 2023–24 list. Only four players made it in the A+ category – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Many young and upcoming cricketers like Rajat Patidar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, etc. were also given their first contracts.
The central contracts are divided into 4 categories – A+, A, B, C – based on the performance of players and participation in three forms. After Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja exit after his retirement from T20 International, there was speculation over the exit from the A+ category (top bracket offering an annual salary of 7 crores), but the three were maintained by the board.
The pair of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were released out of the final central contract by the BCCI on some disciplinary issues. While Iyer has already returned to the Indian team in the ODI format, Kishan has shown promising signs in the ongoing IPL 2025 campaign.
In fact, Iyer also played an important role in the Indian team’s Champions Trophy-Independent Campaign earlier this year. Iyer made his comeback in the grade B category, while Ishaan was added to the grade C bracket.
