T20 Champions League Ribranded IPL and PSL may be closed as staying away

The biggest attraction of the T20 Champions League will be face-to-face between IPL and PSL teams. Without it, there will be no discussion between the subcontinent fans.

A champions league-style’s proposed revival of the global T20 tournament, potentially hit the World Club Championship (WCC), hit a major stum block. And this is no commitment to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL). Without the participation of two subcontinental veterans, the commercial viability and global appeals of the tournament are already subject to a serious investigation.

No India, no Pakistan – no discussion?

Preliminary reports about WCC pushed a renewed to revive the Champions League T20 by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and ICC President J Shah, which lasted from 2009 to 2014. The new tournament was expected to facilitate champion clubs from major leagues like IPL, PSL, SA20, ILT20, BBL, and hundred. However, the latest update of cricket Pakistan and PTI suggests that there is no formal agreement in the place, and more importantly, there is no official participation from India or Pakistan.

A source told cricket to Pakistan, “No official decision has been taken to organize such a tournament. So the question of keeping Pakistan out does not arise.” In fact, reports suggest that no PSL or PCB representatives were present in the recent cricket officials meeting in England, where the subject was not formally discussed.

For India, while BCCI has shown interest and even supported the idea in principle, no IPL franchise has been confirmed for the tournament. Sources told PTI, “Although the Indian Board supports the planned program, there will be no IPL participation for the inaugural championship.”

Back in February, ECB chief Richard Gold indicated in the “World Club Championship for both men and women” as a logical next step in the development of franchise cricket. But still, experts warned of lack of available window. With the T20 World Cup in early 2026, immediately after the IPL, fitting another multi-League tournament into a pre-packed calendar can prove to be impractical.
