Suryakumar Yadav again falls for Yuzvendra Chahal, but not before making unprecedented records

Suryakumar Yadav has been excellent in IPL 2025, where he has scored an average of 65 in 16 matches.
To say, Suryakumar Yadav has been MI’s best batter in IPL 2025, would be a grave understatement. On Sunday, during the qualifier 2 between MI and PBKS in Ahmedabad, India’s T20I skipper went on to score 44 from 26 deliveries, with four boundaries, and three sixes. But that wasn’t the best part about Surya’s cameo.
Suryakumar Yadav 1st to Make 700 Runs for MI
During the innings, Suryakumar Yadav became the first MI batsman to get to 700 runs in a single edition of the IPL. This year in 16 matches, he has scored 717 runs with five fifties, and average of 65 and a strike-rate of 167. In the race to orange cap, he is only second to GT’s Sai Sudharsan, who has 759 runs to his name.
As far as the most runs in a single edition of the IPL is concerned, the record is in the name of RCB’s Virat Kohli — 973 runs in 2016. Apart from that, Surya extended his record of most 25+ innings — now 16 in 16 IPL 2025 matches. He had bettered Shubman Gill’s record of 13 such consecutive innings back in 2023.
Yuzvendra Chahal is Surya’s Nemesis
But then, just when the job was half done, he fell to PBKS spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, for the fourth time in his career. In 13 innings, the batter has managed to score 113 runs, after being dismissed four times. That all, in just 88 deliveries, where 35 have been dots. That makes it an average of 29, and a strike-rate of 131 only.
Meanwhile, it is important to note that Chahal is coming back into the side after missing a few matches due to a wrist injury. In fact, he had played his last match in the tournament on May 18, against RR.
