Shubman Gill indicated that India lost the conspiracy, “We could implement ourselves a little better”

IND vs Eng: Indian batting, which was excellent in the series, failed for the first time in Lord’s.

After England’s 22-run victory on Monday, there is a lot for Team India to ponder upon. Although they came within touching distance of the victory, it was their batting that failed them, in first innings, as well as the second. Skipper Shubman Gill hinted as to what cost them the match eventually.

Shubman Gill Rues Missed Batting Chances

Speaking after the clash, he said, “At one point, we thought if we get a lead of 80-100 that might be crucial for us, because we knew the fifth day on this wicket might not be that easy to chase 150-200, so we were thinking if we can get a lead of 80 runs we would be in a good position.”

But that was not to be. Rishabh Pant was run out while batting on 74, and that triggered a collapse for India in the first innings, and that meant, they were all out for 387 — the same score that England managed. Come the second, while chasing 193, they kept losing wickets, right from the end of the day 4.

No 50-run Partnerships

“I think the last one hour (yesterday), we could have applied ourselves a bit better, especially the last 2 wickets that fell. And even this morning, the way they came out with the plans, we were hoping for one 50-run partnership and if we had gotten one 50-run partnership in the top order, then things would have been easier for us,” Shubman Gill added.

But then he maintained how well the young Indian side had played. “Sometimes, the series scorecard doesn’t really reflect how well you have played. I think we played some really good cricket and I think it is going to be an even exciting series from hereon.”
