Shubman Gill broke the major ICC rules on Captain Debut, may recover

Shubman Gill wore black socks in the ING vs. Engingley Test going against INCC’s clothing and equipment rules and regulations.

India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, knocked a statement in the IND vs Eng 1st Test, scoring a bang with eight borders in half a century. With 215/2 in 51 overs up to tea on day 1, India took up the upper hand. But despite scoring big points on Test Captain Debut, Gills could face ICC’s anger to violate the dress code rules.

Shubman Gill wore black socks, digging traditional white socks with test white. After the recommendations of MCC, it is not allowed according to the International Cricket Council, which writes the laws of cricket.

What does ICC say about black socks?

As per 19.45 of ICC’s clothing and equipment rules and regulations, a player Test matches should wear white, cream or light brown colored socksBut Shubman Gill chose to wear black. This clearly violates the ICC rules, which came into force in May 2023.

While many people have not violated clothing and equipment rules, Chris Gayle was fined 10% of his match fee to use a bat with a black blade in BBL 2016. However, it was not an ICC incident.

Will Shubman Gill be fined?

The decision is on the match referee. If the IND vs. ENG 1st Test match referee, Richie Richardson, Shubman makes a note of Gill’s dress code, India Test Captain can be fined. However, in this case, the match referee should note that it is a deliberate level 1 crime. If this happens, the gill can pay about 10–20% as fine.

  • Level 2 crime: 50% to 100% match fee and/or penalty of restrictions (eg, 1 test or 2 area), although rare for clothing issues until until it is combined with other misconduct.
