Shubman Gill, bowlers thrash England 336 runs, India level series 1-1

Day 5 started with a delay after rain and a wet outfield cost India an hour of play. India had 80 overs to take 7 wickets but eventually did so with a session to spare. Deep bagged his maiden fifer in Tests, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were also amongst the wickets. Here are all the IND vs ENG 2nd Test Highlights:

Shubman Gill and a record breaking Test

If Leeds was a starting point, Shubman Gill really amped it up in Birmingham. Gill batted for more than 8 hours to stroke a patient yet fluent 269 to power India to 587. It is the highest score by an Indian captain in Tests, and the also the highest by any Indian in England. He followed it up with 161 in the second innings, helping India set a 608-run target. Gill aggregated 430 runs in the match, the second most ever in a Test match. Add to that a first win as Test captain, the 25-year-old would certainly be on Cloud 9.

Mohammed Siraj x Akash Deep: Bumrah’s absence negated

Of the 20 wickets India took in Birmingham, 17 belonged to their Siraj or Akash Deep. Bumrah’s absence was a huge talking point but both of India’s seamers delivered with career best figures. On a flat pitch, the duo put on a masterclass of seam bowling. Mohammed Siraj took 6/70 in the first innings, while Akash Deep got his own 6-wicket haul in the second innings. The Bengal pacer took 10 in the match, playing a key role in England’s downfall. He is only the second Indian bowler with a 10-fer in England after Chetan Sharma.
