Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Shreyas Iyer, will return to the Eden Gardens – this time as Punjab Kings Skipper for the IPL 2025 match on Saturday. Former India captain, Sunil Gavaskar, told how Iyer will be fired on Saturday as KKR as PBK captain.
“He will be fired. And if he was, you know, I have been out of the form, if he had not done well. Anyone could have understood. But the captain of a winning team is not being retained, he would have been hurt. There would have been hurt. There is no question about it, he will hurt. Now he has done a lot, which is fine.
KKR lost to PBKS in the first phase of his face-off in IPL, when he could not pursue 112 for one of the most embarrassing losses in the history of the tournament.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke, however, supported KKR to return. The defending champion has only four of the eight matches so far.
“No, I don’t think they will. I think the game will be left in memory for KKR and they would not want to talk about it again, but I think it is a beauty. Let’s see what kind of pitch we get. I think both teams need to win really. They are gaining a lot of experience with their team. They just get a little experience.
“They are not great in two this season, and they still have a chance that they can fold things around. I think KKR is one of teams like Mumbai. If they get a role, they are very destructive.”
