Both Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh were surprised by a squad from India.
The BCCI announced a powerful 20-man squad for India a Tour of England. India will play 2 4-day games against England Lions, under the leadership of Abhimanu Ezvaran. Tour Games did a strong party before the tests of India vs England and the selectors have named a strong party to choose. While the choice of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar has cut, some clear options have been missed.

India’s 20-Man Squad did not include Shreyas Iyer. The 30 -year -old played the last of his 14 Tests a year ago and was out of the picture. He did a civilized Ranji Trophy season with Mumbai, scoring 480 runs in just 7 innings. Shreyas has established himself as a reliable middle-order batsman and hopes that he does the same in Test cricket.
However, he was ignored. There may be an argument that Iyer had to give a break, played the Champions Trophy and ventured directly to the IPL 2025. It is also on the run of Punjab Kings’ playoffs. The BCCI, however, nominated Shubman Gill and Sai Reformson in the squad for another game, a provision that they could also do for Shreyas.
Arshdeep Singh, the partner of Shreyas’s PBKS team, was also an important miss. The selectors named Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep and Harshit Rana – all of whom played BGT earlier this year. Singh was expected to cut due to the angle of his left hand, but missed. Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore is another notable absent. He took 24 wickets in 5 matches in the Ranji Trophy and was impressed by Titans in Gujarat. However, he finds himself under the Peking order with Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar in the mix.
Ruturaj Gikwad Lucky?
While Shreyas Iyer missed, Ruturaj Gikwad cut. The CSK star was dropped from the midway with fracture during IPL 2025. He played only 3 Ranaji games this season, scoring 2 fifty and 330 runs. Maharashtra is believed to have been stated much below the Peking order, but the luck has become strong to see the opportunity to impress the CSK star in England.
The same can be said for Isan Kishan. The keeper was left to get out of the Ranji Trophy duties after establishing himself as a competent deputy for Rishha Pant. Kishan’s form has been away from satisfactory in the IPL, dripping since its century. Tushar Deshpande has also fought for the form. RR Pesar has a forgetful IPL season and the last time a first class game was played a year ago.
