Set for Angelo Mathews Final Test, Debut likely for Lahiru Udara

Galle has been a spin-friendly site, and Sri Lanka can play three spinners well.

The new cycle of the World Test Championship closed on Tuesday with SL vs. Bain Test series. The WTC 25–27 began with the end of an era to Sri Lanka, with Angelo Mathews retiring. The islands have a group of new faces with Dhananjaya de Silva to lead the transition from 17 June.

All eyes will be on Angelo Mathews, which are ready for their final test. Matthews declaration comes on the heels of retirement of Dimuth Karunaratne, leaving with several holes to fill Sri Lanka. Patam Nisanka, Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva created the rest of the batting lineup. Lahiru Udara, who has 16 FC tons in the name, is in line to fill Karunaratne shoes.

“The best thing we can do for Angelo is winning the match for him and giving him a good farewell. Unfortunately, we cannot do this for Dimuth. Personally, I am hoping that we can do it for Angelo,” D Silva said on the eve of SL vs Ban 1 Test.

Tharindu Rathnayake is also ready to make his Test debut in Galle. He is unclear and has 337 FC wickets for his name. Sri Lanka hopes that he attaches little support to Prabha Jaisuria. Akila Danjaya could also play his first Test since 2019 after remembering a side for Sl vs. Ban series.
