Sachin Tendulkar to start 3 Tests at Lord’s in India vs England

Sachin Tendulkar also rang the bell of God in August 2018.

There’s always something magical about a Test match at Lord’s. And when it’s India vs England, the energy around the ground feels even more special. On Thursday, July 10, the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will begin at the iconic venue, and the first day will get a legendary touch as Sachin Tendulkar has been invited to ring the ceremonial bell to signal the start of play.

Tendulkar to continue the tradition

Introduced in 2007, the ringing of the five-minute bell before the start of a Lord’s Test has become a much-loved tradition, carried out by former greats and influential names in cricket. From Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Sunil Gavaskar to Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, many Indian icons have done the honours, and now it’s Tendulkar’s turn (once again). It is befitting that Tendulkar will ring the bell to start the third Test of the series that is named after him!

This is the first series being played for the newly minted Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, named after James Anderson and the batting maestro himself.

Ironically, while Tendulkar will finally receive his Lord’s moment, the legendary Indian batter never found a place on the famed Lord’s honours board, having failed to score a century at the ground across five Tests, the most by any Indian. It remains one of the few gaps in an otherwise unparalleled career tally of 51 Test centuries.

With the series tied 1-1, India are eyeing another Lord’s win after their famous 2021 triumph. Under Shubman Gill’s leadership and with Jasprit Bumrah set to return, the tricolour might just fly high again at the Home of Cricket. After thumping England at Edgbaston, the momentum is with India.
