Ryan Fox earns the first PGA title with playoff chip-in on Martal Beach

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox made a fierce comeback on Sunday to win their first PGA Tour event in a three-man playoffs at Oneflight Martal Beach Classic in South Carolina.

“I always felt that my game was quite good to compete with the best in the world, and I got it today to show it a little,” Fox said. “Additional special to achieve that victory.”

Fox fired a 5-under-Para 66 a day to finish the 15-under 269 at Dunes Golf and Beach Club, forcing a three-wave tie with Canadian Macenzi Hughes and Harry Higgs.

In the playoffs, the 38 -year -old clung to the edge of the green at number 18 to secure a shirt, excluded Hughes and Higgs from the controversy and earned a place in this week’s PGA Championship in Charlett.

“It changes the plans a bit,” he said. “I can have a little hangover tomorrow.”

The Fox PGA had never ended in the top three on the PGA Tour-three Top-10 finish served as his career highlights-and credited his ability to focus through his veins and stick to his process.

“I know it’s really clich, but it is clicht for a reason. It works,” Fox said. “Go up, just focus on trying to hit the shot that I am going to hit and see what happens from there.”

Fox started three strokes behind the leader Carson Young. When he reached the 17th T, he lagged Hughes back with two shots. He also registered a shirt at the age of 17 to draw with Higgs and go inside a shot of Hughes.

The Birdi came after the birdi at 3, 10, 13 and 15 as Fox did not register any bogies on the day.

At par-4 number 18, with a tournament on the line, Hughes faced a bogie to set the stage for the playoffs. The first PGA tour playoff was disadvantage of defeat hughes on the first additional hole. Both of his tour win – 2016 RSM Classic and 2022 Sanderson Farms came in the playoffs.

Hughes finished with six Birds and two bogies in the shooting of 4-under 67. The Higgs made a strong start with three shovedies in their first four holes, but with two more shovedies and two bogies below 3 below 3 were finished with the remaining.

“Yes, I have not found anything to hang my head here,” said Higgs. “I have proved myself a lot for today and the last few days, especially playing in the rain.”

Chinese Taipei’s Kevin U finished a stroke at a speed below 14 after his 6-under 65. Alex Smalli finished fifth in 13th position with Nicklas Norgard of Denmark.

Young 2-Over fell into a tie for the 13th after the shooting of 73.
