Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale has accused the team’s ex-co owner Raj Kundra of blackmail in a UK court. Badale’s Emerging Media Ventures holds the majority stake in the IPL franchise. Badale claimed that Kundra had blackmailed him alleging that he was defrauded out of minority stake in RR.

RR owner accuses Kundra of blackmail

As per news agency Reuters, Badale’s lawyer claimed that Kundra had blackmailed Badale by threatening to report serious allegations to Indian authorities. Badale and Emerging Media Ventures were suing the former RR co-owner at London’s High Court for allegedly breaching a 2019 confidential settlement agreement. The case is related to Kundra’s shares in RR team.

Badale’s lawyer Adam Speker told the agency that Kundra was forced to forfeit his 11.7% stake in RR after he was found guilty in 2015 of betting IPL games. He added that Kundra emailed Badale “out of the blue” last month, claiming he had been “misled and defrauded of the rightful value of my 11.7% stake.”

‘In that email, Kundra said he had filed a complaint with Indian authorities and threatened to escalate the matter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, he also suggested he was willing to discuss a deal involving “the restoration of my original equity or compensation reflecting the true and current valuation of the Rajasthan Royals franchise”,‘ the report stated.

What had Kundra said?

Earlier in the month, Kundra took to social media, with an announcement of impending revelations against a key figure in the IPL. He threatened, releasing evidence of financial malpractice and irregular transactions about the person in question.

““I will soon be releasing documented evidence exposing serious financial misconduct, money laundering through offshore structures and hidden transactions involving a key promoter of the Rajasthan Royals,” Kundra had written.
