Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli “will depend”: Gautam Gambhir’s big statement while playing 2027 World Cup

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli “should be a part of the Indian team, unless they are performing”, head coach Gautam Gambhir said on Tuesday, claiming that both senior batsmen would be selected for their upcoming testing tour of England. The nonsense around the 36-year-old Kohli is not especially high-decibel, but also has questions on his future. “The first things are not selecting the job team of a coach. It is the job of the selectors to select the selectors. The coach selects only 11 who will play a match. Neither the coach in front of me were selector nor I am a selector,” Gambhir, who was speaking in ABP News’ India at the summit of 2047, tried to comment on senior players.

When the hard pressed, Gambhir replied, “They should be part of the team until they (Rohit and Kohli) are performing. When you start and when you finish, your personal decision is made.

“No coach, no selector, no BCCI can tell you when you should call. If you perform, why 40, why, you can play till 45 well, who is stopping you?” He took a pinch.

India will visit England for five tests starting from June 20. While he did not give a certain reply to the future of the pair, he had a slightly more positive attitude on his ability to move to the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

“He (playing 2027 ODI World Cup) will depend on his performance. Only it can ensure his selection.”

Both batsmen, who fought significant criticism for their excellent performance during the Australia’s Test tour, enjoyed a very good form during the Champions Trophy and Gambhir accepted. “And what should I say about their performance? The world saw how they performed in the whistle.”

Gambhir also rubbed the concept of planned farewell and insisted that no cricketer puts him in his bucket list. He said, “No sportsman plays cricket thinking about a grand farewell.

“Does whether he gives farewell or not is not important. If he has contributed to the country, it is a big farewell. Is there a big trophy to the countrymen with love? The farewell does not matter to the cricketers.”
