Rohit Sharma achieved historical feat as MI necklace to take RR to the top position

Mumbai Indian batsman Rohit Sharma is now the second player to score more than 6000 runs for the same franchise in T20 cricket. Rohit reached the milestone during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday. Rohit Sharma is the highest run-scorer in the history of IPL for MI. He has played 231 matches for Mumbai. With a total of 6024 runs for MI, Rohit is second after Virat Kohli, which leads the list with 8871 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Rohit scored a brilliant 53 off 36 balls before Rohit was rejected by Ryan Parag. His innings were studded with nine borders. This was his third fifty in the ongoing IPL.

After a slow start in the first half of IPL 2025, where Rohit scored only 56 runs in his first five matches, Rohit recovered again in his last five innings with 234 runs against RR on Thursday with not-outs fifty and 53.

The veterans of Mumbai Indians are searching for their appearance properly when their team needs the most in this important phase.

The MI on Thursday nominated a total of 217/2 against RR, thanks to a strong start by opener Rohit Sharma and Ryan Ricelton, followed by a blazing finish from Suryakumar Yadav and MI captain Hardik Pandya.

MI openers left for a flying start, brought the team 50 in only 5.2 overs and completed the powerplay at 58 without loss. Ricelton was the first to reach his half -century, reached there in 29 balls, while Rohit soon chased 50 runs with 31 delivery.

The pair shared 116 runs before the Sri Lankan spinner Mahech Thekshana, which rejected Reclleton for 61 (38 balls), knocking one with seven borders and three sixes.

Rohit left shortly after 53 (36 balls), which included nine fours, who fell to Rajasthan captain Ryan Parag. However, there was no relief for the Royals as Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took charge in the late innings.

The pair added an unbeaten 94-ri partnership, in which both batsmen finished the same score of 48, with each run off 23 balls. Suryakumar sealed the innings in style, launched six from the final delivery. He and Pandya did not remain outside.

Only Theekshana and Parag managed to take every wicket for the hosts. Royals have a difficult task ahead.
