The German Markets played seven skilled innings on Sunday and Hunter Goodman scored five runs, as Colorado Rockies snatched the eight-game losing streak with a 9–3 victory at the San Diego Padress tour in Danver.
After the game, however, Rockies announced the firing of manager Bud Black and bench coach Mike Redmund. Despite the victory, the Colorado season is a league-of-two bad 7-33.
The third base coach Warren Shefefer was named interim manager along with interim coach Clint Hurdle with interim bench coach.
Markets (1-6) entered the day with a 9.90-earned run average, but looked 10–4 like a pitcher in his career against San Diego. He allowed a run with just three hits and one walk and two strikes, leading to his ERA 8.27.
Nick Pivata (5–2) ran in only four innings for San Diego, with five hits and six runs from two walks, while five fans. This was his second smallest outing of the year.
Goodman was his primary torture. Colorado Catcher-In the role of a hitter in the game, he cracked three-run homer in the sixth of the year, then scored two runs in the third and later scored through Mickey Moniyak’s RBI single.
This made it 6–1 and put Rockies on the path of his seventh win only in 40 matches. Marx placed him straight and on the narrow, pulling him out of a dozen on grounders. The last two marks came on the 78th and the final pitch of the game came on the double play ball of Jason Haved in the seventh.
It was a very important quality start for a team, scoring 55 runs in the last four matches, including 21 on 24 hits on Saturday night in the 21–0 defeat. Padress excluded 40 hits in the first two matches of the series, but managed only five against Markes and two relievers.
Colorado added a sacrifice fly by Michael Toglia and two runs in the seventh in an RBI double by Monon. Ryan McMahon stored Scoring in the sixth year in the eighth with a single homer.
Manny Machao scored two runs for San Diego, who lost for the first time in six matches with Rockies this year.
Goodman had three hits out of 12 hits in Colorado, which was a shy of the cycle.
