Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed that he would take a decision about the continuity of the peat rose ban from baseball after meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss the topic.
Manfred spoke at a meeting of Associated Press Sports Editors on Monday, where he confirmed that he spoke with Trump at the White House. The meeting, originally reported by Washington Post, took place on 16 April.
“I met President Trump two weeks ago … and one of the subjects was Pete Rose, but I am not going beyond it,” said Manfred. “He said what he publicly said. I am not going ahead what was the front and back.”
Trump took a stand on the daily ban case when he announced on his social media platform Truth Social on February 28 that he would “signed a full forgiveness of Peat Rose”.
The President said that Rose “should not have gambling on baseball, but only bets on winning their team.” He has yet to follow any kind of forgiveness, and it is not clear that it will cover the player’s legal issues. Rose served a five -month prison for tax evasion in 1990.
All-time hit leader with 4,256 of Baseball, died on 30 September last year at the age of 83. His death asked him to restore by the league so that he could be included in the baseball hall of fame someday.
Jeffrey Lenkov, a lawyer, who represented Rose, filed a petition to the League in January, aimed at the objective in disqualified disqualification for the daily.
Manfred did not offer a time -term for his decision.
“I’m not going to give it a pocket veto,” said Manfred. “I will really release a decision.”
Rose should be restored, they will still need to nominate the Hall of Fame’s Hal -Fame’s Historic Overview Committee, which are eligible to appear on the voting of the classic baseball era.
Manfred also stated that he is concerned with Trump’s immigration policies that affect the scores of foreign origin players from countries such as Cuban, Venezuela and Dominican Republic of MLB.
Manfred said, “Given the number of foreign-born players we have, we are always concerned about the Engrace and the Igress.” “We have interacted with the administration about the subject. And, you know, they are very interested in the game. They understand that the unique needs need to be able to go forward and back, and I am going to leave it on it.”
