Rick Pitino says that he will not do ‘coach’ at all

St. John’s coach Rick Pitino said he was again interested in becoming the head coach of New York Nix.
“Not at all,” Pitino said according to CBS Games, during Wednesday’s broadcast of New York Yankis and Cleveland Guardian.
“I think anyone who comes in, if he does not go to the final, is considered a failed season,” he continued. “So, whatever comes, it has got so much pressure to take this team to the next level, why they are doing this, obviously, in their mind.”
Nix on Tuesday fired head coach Tom Thibodo despite reaching the final of the Eastern Conference for the first time in 25 years.
Nix has not reached the NBA final since 1999 and has not won the championship since 1973.
72-year-old Pitino set a 90–74 record with two playoff performances in two sessions as head coaches for New York by 1987–89.
Hall of Famer completed his second season as head coach at St. John in 2024-25, won the National and Big East Coach of the Year after ending 31–5.
Thibodo compiled a record of 226–174 (.565) in five sessions, including 51–31 finish in this season. He was 24–23 in the playoffs with New York.
