Athletic reported on Wednesday that authorities in NASCAR and San Diego region are working towards an agreement to return the cup series in southern California.

According to the report, the two sides are finalizing the details on a road-corres-race to be held in the area. An announcement in July is temporarily expected.

NASCAR and Sports San Diego, Sports Tourism Branch of the region, both refused to make a statement to the athletic.

NASCAR has not given a non-functional race in Southern California since 2023 when the speedway in Fontana closed.

A road race in San Diego may give a chance to drive with the Pacific Ocean in the background, although the athletic reported that an exact location for the race has not been finalized.

NASCAR has already closed the oval, with a road race held in the city Chicago since 2023. Grant Park 165, as called on 2025 schedules, will run in Chicago on 6 July.
