Ravichandran Ashwin fined heavy to show dissatisfaction in TNPL 2025

Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined 10% of his match fee for dissatisfaction against umpires and 20% for misuse of cricket equipment.
Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of Dindigul Dragons and former India all-rounder, has been fined 30% of his match fee for showing dissent during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans on Sunday night (June 8) in Coimbatore.
What did Ashwin do?
The incident happened in the fifth over of Dindigul’s innings when Ashwin was adjudged LBW off R Sai Kishore while attempting a sweep shot. Replays showed the ball may have pitched outside the leg stump, but with both reviews already used on wide-ball calls, Ashwin had no way to challenge the decision.
He appeared visibly upset and immediately remonstrated with on-field umpire Kritika, pointing toward the pitch. As he walked off, Ashwin hit his pads with his bat in frustration and later flung his gloves after entering the dugout.
A TNPL official confirmed that Ashwin was fined 10% for dissent and another 20% for misuse of equipment. “There was a hearing conducted by the match referee after the game. He (Ashwin) accepted the sanctions after a hearing conducted by the match referee,” the official told Cricbuzz.
Ashwin had looked in good touch, scoring a quick 18 off 11 balls with two fours and a six. However, his dismissal with the team at 39/1 triggered a dramatic collapse. Dindigul were bowled out for just 93 in 16.2 overs. Tiruppur chased down the target with ease, winning by nine wickets and 49 balls to spare, led by Tushar Raheja’s unbeaten 65 and Esakkimuthu’s 4/26 with the ball.
The incident went viral on social media, with many fans questioning Ashwin’s frustration. Dindigul Dragons now sit fifth on the TNPL points table with one win from two matches.
