Rangers Fire Head Coach Peter Lavilett after remembering the playoffs

In a season of ending with the best record at New York Rangers NHL, the team on Saturday fired head coach Peter Lavilett and Associate Head Coach Phil Houseley.
Rangers went to 55–23–4 (114 points) in the last season and reached the final of the Eastern Conference, where they were finished in a six game series by Florida Panthers. New York went to finish six points from a playoff spot from 39–36-7 this season (85 points).
“We came up with high expectations for ourselves this season,” Rangers General Manager Chris Dr. said in a release. “Just, we failed to meet those expectations. We should all improve – include ourselves. As we move ahead in and from the next season, I felt that a change was necessary to give us the best chance to achieve our goals as an organization.”
Dr. said that the discovery of a new head coach started immediately.
In two sessions as the head coach of Rangers, 60-year-old Leviolat posted a record of 94–59–11. Prior to this season, New York had performed three consecutive playoffs, while in that run, the run was twice in the final of the Eastern Conference.
Rangers have not participated in the Stanley Cup final since 2014 and have last won a title in 1994.
Laviolette, who played in only 12 NHL games in his career, all have been the NHL head coach for 23 seasons, with Rangers during the 1988-89 season.
She is near New York Islanders (2001-03), Carolina Hurricane (2003-09), Philadelphia Flyers (2009-14), Nashville Predetters (2014-20), Washington Capital (2020–23) and 846-562–161 records (25 relationships) with Rangers.
His 846 regular season-winning wins are the highest among the United States coaches in NHL history and the seventh all-time.
