PWHL Seattle name Steve O’Rurke as the first coach

PWHL Seattle has nominated Steve O’Rurke as the first head coach of the expansion franchise.

Seattle – PWHL Seattle nominated Steve O’Rurke as the first head coach of the expansion franchise on Friday.

O’Rurke spent 2024-25 seasons as the head coach of Oshwa generals of OHL after serving as an assistant coach for two sessions. In all, he brings over 15 years of coaching experiences in Seattle.

General Manager Meghan Turner said, “We are proud to welcome Steve as the first head coach in the history of PWHL Seattle.” “He brings a great hockey mind, a clear vision for the game, and a strong commitment to develop both our team and our players as individuals. We are confident under his leadership and are excited to start this next chapter with them behind the bench.”

O’Rurke, a native of Samarland, BC, played at WHL before being selected by New York Islands in the 1992 NHL draft. His coaching career also includes Prince George Kagar and Stent with Red Deer Rebels and AHL’s Abbotsford Heats.

50 -year -old O’Rurke also served as an assistant coach for the Canadian team Red at the 2019-20 World Under -17 Hockey Challenge, and a season spent a season as General Manager and Head Coach of Langli Revereman of BCHL.

“I am incredibly excited to join the professional Women’s Hockey League,” O’Rurke said. “This is something that I thought was because the League was declared for the first time. Now the opportunity has been given to work with the best players in the world and to be a part of a professional league that is performing both on snow and closed.

“Being from the West and after playing hockey in the state of Washington, I have seen for the first time how much the game has increased in this field. The passion and support for hockey is real here, and I am now proud to be part of it in a new way. It is nothing to help the players to shape the Seattle team with a cloud turner.
