PWHL confirms Vancouver as the first expansion team

PWHL is expanding to Vancouver.

Professional Women’s Hockey League officially announced on Wednesday that the Vancouver League would be included as the seventh franchise, and the expansion club would start in the 2025–26 season.

The primary color of Vancouver will be “Pacific Blue”, with its secondary color being cream. Details about an extension draft and how to integrate Vancouver in 2025 PWHL draft on 24 June will be declared in the coming weeks.

The team will play their home games in Pacific Colizium, which is located on the property of the Pacific National Exhibition, and the practice feature will be located in the Pne Agrodome. The League said that both facilities would undergo “comprehensive upgradation” for the locker room and training facilities.

PWHL was launched in 2024 with six clubs, and the addition of Vancouver represents the onset of west. Charter teams are Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montreal Victor, New York Siren, Ottawa Charge and Toronto Septress.

PWHL said that it is called a takeover tour, in which sports are played in nine non-League cities across North America. The highest polling took place in January when the League hosted a game with around 19,000 fans in Vancouver. A stop in Seattle attracted more than 12,000 people – a positive signal should have a PWHL desire to have two teams in Prashant Northwest.

“This is our league, our fans, our athletes and a historic day for our game,” Amy Sheer, Amy Sheer, Executive Vice President of Business Operations, said in a statement. “Vancouver is a vibrant city with a deep love for the game – as we saw for the first time during the PWHL takeover tour this season.

“The expansion of Vancouver reflects the growing pace behind the league since the launch in January 2024 and the unreliable passion of our fanbase. We are proud to bring PWHL to the West Coast and to provide opportunity to the best women hockey players in the world.”

PWHL is owned by Mark Walter, owner of Los Angeles Dozers and his wife, Kimbra.
