Punjab Kings Glenn Maxwell signs Babar Azam’s PSL team partner

Punjab Kings (PBK) have signed Australian Mitchell Owen as an injury replacement for star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, which was rejected for the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a broken fracture earlier this week. Owen, who is currently playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League, will join PBK for Rs 3 crore. Owen Big Bash League (BBL) was the lead-scorer of 2024-25, scoring 452 runs on a strike-rate of more than 200 to help Hobart Storm take his first title.

An official IPL statement said, “Punjab Kings (PBK) has chosen all -rounder Mich Owen as Glenn Maxwell’s replacement, which has been excluded from the rest of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a broken finger.”

“Mich Owen, Tasmania, from Australia, has played 34 T20s and scored 646 runs, including two centuries and the highest score of 108. There are also 10 T20 wickets named after the Australian all-rounder,” the statement said.

After South Africa’s Corbin Bosch decided to break his PSL contract in favor of a step of Mumbai Indians in the IPL, Owen included Peshawar Zalmi as a supplementary player as a supplementary player. According to Espncricinfo, Owen is expected to join PBK after completing its PSL commitments.

So far, Owen has scored 200 runs in the PSL game for Peshawar. He has also taken two wickets during the same time. A right-handed top-order batter and right-arm medium pacer, Owen, is designed to bat on top of the order by Peshawar Zalmi for the convenience of out-of-form skipper Babar Azam.

Owen caught Limelight during BBL earlier this year. He hit in two centuries in the season, including 101 runs in 64 balls against Sydney Thunder, but saved his best for the final against the same opposition: a notable 108 for 42 runs with 11 sixes.
