Prithvi Shaw wants to leave Mumbai, wants NOC from MCA

Prithvi Shaw has not sought any objection certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association to play for another state as a professional.
Out of favour batter Prithvi Shaw has expressed his desire to leave the Mumbai cricket team ahead of the upcoming domestic season. The opener has been embroiled in controversies over the past one year, with the Mumbai Cricket Association accusing Shaw of being unfit and disciplinary issues. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal had sought NOC to play for Goa but did a U-turn after a couple of weeks.

As per The Indian Express, a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association confirmed that Shaw has sought a NOC and that a decision on it will be made soon. The report states that Prithvi had received offers from a couple of states earlier this month.
“He has sought NoC from us and we will take decision on it soon,” a source in the MCA confirmed to The Indian Express.
The out-of-favour batter was first dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad midway through the tournament in 2024. Reports had claimed that he was found to have 35% body fat, more than the permissible limit for players to take field. Shaw was given a strict fitness regime which he allegedly did not follow well.
He was then given a lifeline by being included in the squad for SMAT. Despite playing all matches for Mumbai, Prithvi Shaw failed to convert his starts to good knocks. Ultimately, he finished the tournament without managing to score a single half-century. At that time, Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer had some harsh words for the opener.
“We can’t babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past. It’s not that he hasn’t. He has to focus. He has to sit back, put a thinking cap on and then figure out himself. He will get the answer. No one can force him to do anything,” Shreyas Iyer had said.
He went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction after being released by Delhi Capitals.
