Pre-UCLA All-American, Long Pro David Greenwood dies

Former UCLA standout and long -time NBA player David Greenwood has died. He was 68 years old.

According to the UCLA, Greenwood died on Sunday in Rivaraside, California, after the fight with cancer.

The number 2 of the 1979 NBA draft by Greenwood Chicago Bulls was the overall pick. Los Angeles lases won the coin toss for the number 1 pick and chose the legendary magic Johnson.

Greenwood was a four -year starter for Bruce and the UCLA had an average of 14.8 points and 8.7 rebounds in 118 matches. He was one of the last recruitments of the famous coach John Wooden, but in the 1975 fall, Greenwood retired the “Westwood magician” before Greenwood stepped into the campus.

Greenwood was a two-time conference player and two-time first-Tim All-Aerican, which influenced his strong junior and senior campaigns. He took an average of 17.5 and 11.4 rebounds as junior in 1977–78 and with an average of 19.9 points and 10.3 rebounds.

He still ranks fourth in the school’s all -time rebounding list with 1,022. According to the school, Greenwood ranks third in the history of the program with 52 sports of 10 or more rebels, only 78 with legends Lev Alkindor (Karim Abdul-Jabbar) and 75 tops by Bill Walton. 49 double-dals of Greenwood are also third.

Greenwood was included in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 and PAC -12 Hall of Honor in 2017.

At NBA, Greenwood took an average of 10.2 points and 7.9 rebounds in 823 Games (582 Starts) and was a member of Detroit Piston’s NBA title team in 1990.

Piston said, “We are unhappy to know as a member of the former Piston, David Greenwood, 1990 NBA Championship team.” “Our thoughts and prayers are currently with his family and loved ones.”

He played with four teams, including six seasons with Bulls (1979–85). He scored a career-high 16.3 points as a cheater and averaged more than nine rebels as a sport on five occasions in his NBA career.

Greenwood also played for San Antonio Spors for 4 1/2 season on two stents and Denver Nugets.
