Poker’s 2025 inside world chain: how social media game is changing
In the 1970s, a smokey Las Vegas has become one of the biggest attractions of gambling, with her humble origin in the vegas casino. The opportunity to compete for a gold bracelet is on every serious poker player’s bucket list, as is the chance to sit with some of the biggest stars of the game.
Those stars were built in the early 2000s, when the poker exploded in the mainstream. WSOP’s television coverage discovered its way for ESPN, where the statement and storytelling characters and personalities focused on. Phil Helmuth, Daniel Negrainu and Chris Moneymaker, among others, found stardom quickly.
At the same time, the hole card camera provided fans to the game, as never before, allowed them to be seen from the point of view of their favorite players. What will the one who will face an all-in on the Gus Hansen River? Viewers can watch with drama and live bizarre through the best in the game.
Now, as players make their way to Las Vegas for 2025 WSOP, the next development of poker storytelling is here.
After decades of WSOP, after restricting video coverage inside the tournament ropes during the game- for concerns on connivance or potential gaming regulatory violations- the tournament organizers have finally adopted social media and real-time fan engagement that makes the following people from home. Anyone with a phone inside the tournament area now has the ability to produce material and create moments that would have been seen before.
In the past, big events were blog online, only the staunch poker was read by fans, and mostly forgotten. But media outlets are now allowed to shoot major hands and dramatic moments with their phone and take them out immediately through social media platforms. All bets, bad beats and disagreements are posted online every day on the table. The materials that are hungry for poker fans are correct on their fingers for the next seven weeks.
Some of these videos are going viral and reaching contingent poker fans and potential new poker players – who can first discover enthusiasm around the poker.
This is a new border for the world chain of poker. New personality is being created every day. And the stories emanating from these events are only increasing the game more rapidly. I am excited to see what the series brings.
The 56th edition of the World Series of Poker has 100 Gold Bracelet events in Horsasho Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas. The series lasts from July 16.
