Phillies use outbreaks to defeat mates in seventh, take NL East Lead

Train Turner’s RBI tied a tie and instigated a seventh innings of six runs for Philadelphia Philos, who defeated New York Met 10–2 in a three-game series opener to complete his growth in the first place in the National League East.

The Philos, who has won eight out of nine, has made a loss of 5 1/2-game on the mates in the last eight days.

The Mets have lost seven directly from a joint 51–16. The losing line is the longest for New York since June 2-9, 2023 since the seven-game skid.

Pete Alonso and Jeff McNell hit back-to-back homers from former team partner Taizuan Walker to play sixth place, before the Phillis started his rally against Reid Garat (2-3) and Justin Garza.

Garat, who had allowed only seven runs (four earned) in his first 30 outings to enter on Friday night, failed to retire any of the four batsmen in front of him. Brandon Marsh and Turner opened the frame with back-to-back doubles and Kyle Schwar Alek Bohm walked with a run-scoring single before chasing the gare.

Nick Castelanos hit Garza’s first pitch for RBI Single and Bryson Stot later cut three batsmen with a double -run double.

The rally made a winner of Tanner Banks (2–0), who threw the correct innings of 1 2/3 of relief.

Castelanos added a two -run homer in the eighth. He and Marsh had three hits.

Phillies proceeded 2–0 in the fourth, when Otto Camp defeated the back end of the potential double play ball. Castellanos chased Scoid and Marsh with RBI single.

Phillies Starter Zack Wheeler dropped five hits and three walks out of eight in more than five scorer innings.

Brandon Nimmo and Luis Torrence did two hits for mates.

The miscreant Black Tidwell, who was called back from Triple-e-Sirrakuse on Friday, started his second big league, allowed two runs and three walks on four hits, while 3 2/3 exited four in innings.
