PCB to Bori Rizwan and Shaan Masood, name Salman Ali Aga All-Format Pakistan captain

Salman Ali Aga made his international debut less than 3 years ago and now, he can be named Pakistan’s all-format captain.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to announce Salman Ali Agha as the new all-format captain. The all-rounder was named Pakistan’s full-time T20I captain in March, and under him, the Men in Green have shown a newfound intent while batting, unlike before.

Pakistan’s new all-format captain

Salman has done really well in ODIs and Tests as well. He’s one of the mainstays across formats and that’s why PCB is looking to remove Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood as 50-over and red-ball captains. Newly appointed head coach Mike Hesson, the selection committee, and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi all seem to be on the same page regarding the matter.

“Salman has been impressive in the opinions of the selection committee, new head coach Hesson and, above all, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi. All are on the same page that he should be the all-format captain,” sources told GeoSuper.

Why Rizwan & Shan Masood are being removed

Pakistan’s ODI captain Rizwan hasn’t been pleased with the lack of power he’s been given when it comes to team selection under the last head coach and current High Performance Director Aaqib Javed. He was thinking about stepping down himself if he wasn’t handed the reins of the team. Now, it seems like he might be removed.

As for Test captain Shan Masood, his own performance and the team’s aren’t good. During his tenure, Pakistan has won just 3 of 12 matches. This includes a first-ever series loss to Bangladesh and an inability to beat the West Indies at home. Shan averages just 34.04 and so far isn’t exactly justifying his place in the Test team.

“Masood’s captaincy was unimpressive and timid, so he was destined to lose the captaincy. Moreover, Masood’s own performance was poor so Salman will also take over from him,” sources added.
