
PATO O’Ward found his way to the winners’ circle for the first time this season, while driving in his 100th career Indycar Race, won the first race of two weekends in the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on Saturday.
Race 2 will be on Sunday.
The O’Ward closed the Polister Joseph Newgarden on the 17-Lap restarted after a red flag due to damage to the security barrier on a outside wall.
Will Power was in third place, followed by Scott McLaglin, while the series leader Alex Palu was in fifth place. McLaglin started behind the 27-car region.
This season, with 462 points through 11 out of 17 races, Palu gained 106 points on the O’Ward, while Kyle Kirkwood is in a total of third place, leaving Palu with 140 points.
O’Ward gave Chevrolet their first win of the season and succeeded in Iowa again after winning their first race at the beginning of his 50th career.
Newgarden was denied his first win of the season despite leading 232 out of 275 laps.
Palu won five of the first six races of the season but won only once in the last five races. Scott Dixon scored his first winning season in the most recent race in Mid-Ohio on 6 July.
