The news of leaving Virat Kohli is being rounded on Test cricket social media. On Saturday, it was reported by the Times of India (TOI) that Kohli informed BCCI about the desire to retire from the longest format of the game. The report also mentions that while the BCCI wants Kohli to play the upcoming five-match test series in England, but he is yet to respond to the board’s request. Speaking to NDTV, a source of BCCI confirmed development, saying that the board has requested Kohli to take time before making a call on retirement.

A senior BCCI official quoted NDTV as saying, “He is still incredibly fit and hungry. The entire team raises his presence in the dressing room.” “We have requested them to take some time before making a final call.”

Now, another TOI report claimed that Kohli has requested BCCI to captain him the Test. However, their demand was rejected by the board as they want someone young, most likely Shubman Gill, to lead the team to move forward.

“A new WTC cycle is starting. The future and continuity have to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir wants a set of players with whom there is a possibility of working for an extended period. No stop-gap solution for such an important range can be there. The previous two series are not ideal for team and England.

While Kohli has not made any public statement on the matter, fans and former cricketers equally filled with messages of support to social media, hopefully gives another tenure to modern-day legendary format. For now, Indian cricket waits – sonad with breath.

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma announced retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday. Kohli is also thinking that the batting order of India in the same lines will leave the shoulders of the youth on a large scale in the New World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, which started with a five -match Test series against England in Leeds on 20 June.
