On IPL vs PSL debate, East-CSK Star Sam Billings’ Check “wants me to say something

England wicketkeeper-boss Sam Billings was asked to name the best franchise based T20 league in the world. Billings, who are currently playing for Lahore Kalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), suggested that the Premier League (IPL) of the Indian Premier League is ahead of every other T20 league in the world. Billings, which was unusable at the IPL 2025 auction, was last played in the tournament in 2022, representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Billings said that PSL is competing with England’s “The Handal” and Australia’s “Big Bash League” for the world’s second best T20 League.
“You want me to say something foolish, not? The great thing about cricket is that everywhere you go around the world, you have to be favorable to situations. Playing in India, Pakistan, Australia and England – you have to adapt as a cricketer,” said Billings during a press conference.
“It is difficult to rank all competitions. But, I think it is difficult to see IPL as a premiere competition. It is very clear. Every other competition is fine. In England, we are trying to do the same thing like PSL, to have the second best competition in the world. Big Bash is also trying to do so.”
However, Billings insisted that it is difficult to compare the league as conditions are different everywhere.
He said, “I think it is difficult to compare it. Each competition brings different challenges. I am thankful that I get to travel to the world and play a smile for cricket and bring a smile for people. I will not trade this work.”
Billings have played five sessions in the IPL since their debut in 2016, where they represented Delhi capitals. He then played for CSK in 2018 and 2019, before his last term in IPL, so far for KKR, KKR.
In PSL, Billings have been representing Lahore Kalandars since 2023.
