Not Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are the new kings of Indian cricket after retirement

Gill has led Team India in only 5 T20I matches, too when the main players were not part of the tour in Zimbabwe.
Over the years, Gambhir Gambhir has described the dislike of ‘superstar culture’ in Indian cricket. Less than a year after assuming the role of India’s head coach, Gambhir succeeded in eradicating it to some extent. In the last 5 days, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirement from Test cricket.
Gambhir’s wish came true
The pair was not only in India but the most influential cricketers in the whole world. In June 2024, he overtook T20Is, and it is now a test. Going forward, he is a player with one-form. The superstars have gone. And it is serious that will rule the supreme. It would not be Shubman Gill, who expected to take over as India’s new Test captain.
“Gambhir wants to end the superstar culture that has been prevalent for so many years. He has come here to eliminate superstar culture, and that is inconvenience for some sports members,” A PTI source said in January.
Gill will not be in charge
This is not just the fact that Gill has only 26, but he never led India against a top team. He has no record or praise. The Indian Premier League (IPL) team has not yet taken the Gujarat Titans for a title. He is unused. He can be a vice-captain in white-ball cricket, but a serious room will have alpha.
Anyone stopping Jasprit Bumrah can stand long and can question the rights of Gambhir. And even he is no longer in the leadership plan of things due to his fitness concerns. Those who could do Rohit and Kohli will not play for India till August. And will disappear for months, given how some ODI teams now play.
Bcci and Gammhir on the same page
When severe came in July 2024, he knew that there was an infection on him. Ravichandran has retired from all formats since Ashwin. And Rohit and Kohli are not far away. He told the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he wanted to bring some fresh faces to the test side before the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, which begins in June 2025 and lasts until May 2027.
Rohit and Kohli went away from Test cricket, fulfilled what they wanted. And the selectors are on the same page. Reports show that the BCCI wanted Kohli to stop and may lead the team in England, but from Gambhir’s perspective, he is receiving what he wanted. The ODI World Cup is his team until 2027.
“Gautam Gambhir era begins now. It was categorized that during the next WTC cycle, India needed to have new faces. Every person associated with decision making was known that the Gambhir stood in the case of carrying the longest seniors. Obviously, selected and selected Ajit Agkar was aligned,” A BCCI source told PTI.
