No Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025? Sunil Gavaskar says that the Asian Cricket Council can be dissolved

The Asian Cricket Council was formed in 1983, with both India and Pakistan founding members.
Sports and politics should not be mixed. This is many states. Well, this is not always possible. And it is exactly what is happening with the Asia Cup 2025. This is the largest cricket tournament event except the International Cricket Council (ICC) events. But due to political tension between India and Pakistan, its current and future are not certain.
No Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025?
Reports show that the Government of India can command the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) not to play against the Pakistan cricket team. Due to this, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels that Pakistan will not be part of the tournament in September.
“The BCCI’s stance has always been that the Government of India tells them to do. So I don’t think it will be different when it comes to the Asia Cup. India and Sri Lanka are hosts for this special edition of the Asia Cup, so it depends on what things have changed, but I cannot be a part of Pakistan,” Gavaskar told sports today.
ACC can be dissolved
For unknown, the Asia Cup was built in 1983. Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka came together in 1983 to form the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and in 1984, the first edition of the Asia Cup was played. It was designed to create a very World Cup of Asia, and it is still a success. But the ACC can be dissolved, and the Asia Cup as we know it can also happen.
“I don’t know how this will happen. It may be that the Asian Cricket Council may be dissolved well, and you can simply have a three-nation tour, with a well-known three-nation tournament or a four-nation tournament, with perhaps Hong Kong or UAE is being invited. So that it can happen well; He said.
The 2025 version of the Asia Cup is set to be an 8-team tournament. And Gavaskar suggests that Pakistan will be removed, perhaps. Since Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and BCCI had signed an agreement to play only neutral events, hosting it in India will no longer have any problem.
“It can be well that India decides to get out of the Asian Cricket Council. We can say that we are going to do a 4-nation tournament or a 5-nation tournament in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, and it can be well if the tournament is in Bangladesh, then it is in India,” Gavaskar said.
“If the Asian Cricket Council is dissolved with what is happening, I will not be surprised. I mean, if you have found two countries, you know, fighting against each other, then it is a little difficult to play with each other,” He concluded.
