Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket ahead of India’s five -match Test series in England in June. It is reported that Rohit was removed from Captaincy, the 37 -year -old declared his retirement from the longest format of the game. Rohit’s retirement took place after Australia’s disastrous tour, during which he scored just 31 runs in five innings. Great Derryl Kalinan of South Africa has spoken strongly on Rohit’s retirement, however, saying that India would not miss him much in tests.
Rohit retired, scored 4,301 runs in 67 Tests at an average of over 40, as well as 12 of his 24 tests as India’s captain. However, Kalinan felt that his retirement from Test cricket was a long time.
“Rohit’s retirement was probably overwhelmed in terms of Test cricket away from India. Let’s be honest about it,” Kulinen said while talking to Hindustan Times.
“He has not really been a player that he has stayed at home during his career and we have seen him reluctant to take it forward in the recent Australian series to take it forward and move forward. So I don’t see that there is a disadvantage for India,” Kalinon said.
Prior to the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Rohit also performed a thick patch with the bat during the test series against New Zealand.
After Rohit’s last good run with bat in Test cricket, when India hosted England in early 2024. Rohit scored more than 400 runs with bat in five tests in that series.
Rohit’s retirement has left India with a large hole to fill for the England series in terms of captain, not only with the bat. Sources have said that Shubman Gill is ready to handle India as the new Test captain of India.
