NCAA Chairman on Trump’s Commission Scheme: ‘Up for Annavat’

NCAA President Charlie Baker told reporters on Monday that the Trump administration’s interest in issues affecting the college game can help progress.
President Donald Trump College is planning a President’s Commission on Athletics, in a lead role with former Alabama coach Nick Saban, according to reports that appeared last week.
Yahoo Sports said that the Commission’s goal would be to find a solution for the current scenario – which has had a profound impact on college football, basketball and other sports on unlimited transfer, uncontrolled compensation from the booster under the guise of Nil deals and the ongoing conference.
Baker is the president of NCAA since 2023, when he succeeded Mark Emert. He was the Republican Governor of Massachusetts since 2015-23.
Baker was participating in the Atlantic Coast Conference meetings in Florida when he had an informal meeting with reporters there.
Baker said, “I think it is interested in the fact that it is interested in the working side, I think it talks to the fact that everyone is still paying a lot of attention to what is going on in college game.”
“I am ready for anything that can help us go somewhere.”
Baker said that representatives of his office had “talked to those who are working on it,” although he did not believe that a structure was still ready.
Meanwhile, ACC Commissioner Jim Philips said in an ACC network interview that he believes that the Congress could help the college’s sports ecosystem.
“We have been very bold in the will of a national standard while talking about name, image and equality. We need to ensure that we have something that comes out of Washington that connects all 50 states because we have a piece of project and it is really reducing college games. It’s a race downwards,” Philips said.
But it remains to be seen whether Trump will work with Congress members or bypass them. Sen Tommy Tuberville – former Obern Football Coach – indicated that Trump was considering using an executive order, which he had done to a uniform President’s Commission on religious freedom.
