Najmul Hussain Shunt Step down as Bangladesh Test Captain | Cricket news

New Delhi: Najmul Hussain Shantio has announced his decision to step down as Test Captain of Bangladesh after the team’s 1-0 defeat in the second Test in Colombo. In the post -match press conference, Shanto clarified that his decision was inspired by the team’s long -term interests, not personal disappointment.“I do not want to release (as captain as captain) in the test format (as captain),” shunto said. “This is not personal. I have decided for the betterment of the team. I think it will help the team. I have been a part of the dressing room for the last few years. I think three captains (three for international formats) are not intelligent. I don’t know what the board would feel about this, and I will support their decision. But this is my personal decision. I think it will be difficult for the team to deal with three different captains. ,He said that his decision would neither impose nor reaction to recent defeat.“I would like anyone not find this decision emotional, or that I am disappointed with anything. I want to clarify it. It is for the betterment of the team.”Shunto also shared that he had already “made his intention” to take steps to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Cricket Operations Department.Earlier this month, Shanto was also replaced as the ODI captain of Bangladesh, in which Mehidi Hasan Miraj handled the leadership duties in that format.
Shanto began his term as a Test captain in November 2023 during the home series against New Zealand. Under his leadership, Bangladesh played 14 Tests, four wins – including two landmark win in Pakistan in August 2024 – losing nine and pulling one.Despite the results of the mixed team, Shanto’s personal form as captain was solid. He took an average of 36.24 in the Test compared to 29.83, while cotton was not doing. Bangladesh won under his captaincy in four Tests, he took an average of 37.16 with the bat.
