The record for the most runs scored in a Test match belongs to South Africa vs England in Durban on March 3, 1939. 1981 runs were made in the game, with both the sides recording totals of 530, 316, 481 and 654 runs. The match ended in a draw.

In 2004, the Australia vs India Test in Sydney saw the sixth most runs in a Test match recorded. India finished with a 1st innings score of 705/7, with Sachin Tendulkar scoring 241 runs followed by VVS Laxman with a 178-run knock in the 1st innings. In reply, the hosts posted a 474-run 1st innings total. India managed to get to 211/2 in the 2nd innings, to which the Australians responded with 357/6.

Pakistan vs India in 2006 at Faisalabad saw 1702 runs being scored across 4 innings. Once again, the match was drawn.

The recently concluded match between India and England in Leeds saw both teams amassing 1672 runs. This happens to be the tenth highest run scored in Tests. England went on to win the game by 5 wickets, despite five Indian batters scoring centuries in the match.
