In a new development for hosts England, former all-rounder Moeen Ali has joined the team as a consultant, ahead of the 2nd India Test. As per a report in The Telegraph, his official designation will be that of a coaching consultant. “England have been joined at Edgbaston for training today by Moeen Ali, in a coaching consultancy role,” tweeted Will Macpherson from the pulication.

While it is not clear as to what area will Moeen Ali work on, but given his vast experience as an off spinner, he could be out there to help bowler Shoaib Bashir, who wasn’t at his best in the first IND vs ENG Test at Leeds. The former all-rounder could also be there to help the batters in tackling the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

On the other hand, India seems to be quite sure about making a few changes in their team from the first Test. As per coach Ryan Ten Doeschate, the team could be looking at Nitish Kumar Reddy in Shardul Thakur’s place, as a batting all-rounder. Also, the team is most likely to play two spinners, along with three seamers.

Ten Doeschate also clarified that Jasprit Bumrah is in line to play the second Test as well, and is available for selection. A final call will be taken closer to the match though. “With Bumrah, he is ready to play. It’s how we manage these four Tests. So if we feel like there’s value in playing him in this Test, we’ll make that call at the very last minute,” he said.

“But I’m talking about whether, how the pitch is going to play. Are we better off holding him back for Lord’s and maybe Manchester or the Oval? So it’s all those factors.”
