MLC franchise Seattle Orarkas has decided to let the coach Matthew Mot go in the midst of the ongoing season, while Klassen has resigned as captain

Major League Cricket (MLC) franchise Seattle Orcas have reportedly parted ways with head coach Matthew Mott amid the ongoing season. Orcas are all but out of MLC 2025 playoffs race, and are languishing at the bottom of the table with only losses so far.

Seattle Orcas part ways with coach Mott

As per a statement on the MLC website, Seattle Orcas decided to part ways with Mott citing “differences in coaching and management strategies.” The team’s CEO Hemant Dua claimed that it was a moment of reflection and renewal for the franchise. Further, Klaasen too stepped down as captain to focus on his batting, the statement added. Sikandar Raza will now be the new Orcas captain.

We are grateful to Matthew for his commitment and professionalism during his time with us, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. We respect Heinrich’s decision to step down voluntarily as captain to focus on his batting. This reflects his character and team-first mindset. Sikandar was our unanimous choice once we heard from Klassen about his decision. We believe these changes set the stage for a strong second half of the season,” Orcas CEO said.

Orcas have four more matches left in the group stage of MLC 2025. Meanwhile, the top spot on the standings is occupied by San Francisco Unicorns who have won 6 out of 6 games. The team is the only side to qualify for the playoffs so far. They are followed by Washington Freedom and Texas Super Kings in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
