Major League Baseball suspended Washington National Pitcher George Lopez for three matches and manager Dave Martinez determined one for one for one that Lopez on Wednesday threw in deliberately thrown into Pittsburgh Pirates veteran Andrew McChen.
Martinez will serve his suspension on Thursday. Lopez is appealing.
Both were also fined an unknown amount.
Lopez’s 1–1 pitch crossed the 38-year-old McCchen’s head, with 2–0 pirates with two runners at the bottom of the seventh. Both benches were empty but the order was quickly restored and lopez was excluded.
McCchen wounded for walking to load the hideouts, and Vanil Cruise won the pirates 6–1 with his first career Grand Slam.
“I apologize for everything,” Lopez said after his rejection. “I did not make any pitch (on purpose). … I tried to make my adjustment. I am trying to find my way with my delivery, I tried to find my way through the entire season. And it’s really pathetic that happened. I regret what happened.”
