South Korea’s MI Hiyang Lee gave an 8-end round card of 64 on Thursday and Miizer LPGA in Belmont, Mich, owns a stroke on Grace Kim of Australia after a round of LPGA Classic.
Twenty-three golfer blythefield country club is within four strokes of Lee on Par-72 layout.
After crossing the first four holes during its morning round, Lee required only 11 strokes for the Berdy Hole. After turning to 32, he egets Par-5 10th hole, reached green in two and a hard 24-footer drowned.
“I didn’t expect that I could hit the green color for my second shot,” Lee said. “But it was a magnificent line and good hit with 3-wood and I made green. It was about 24 feet, such as the right-to-left-eagle put. I didn’t expect to make it.”
He made a bird in a bogie-free 64 on 14 and 17 and played four par-5 holes in -4.
Lee missed out on the previous weekend US Open cut and the best finish of 32 -year -old Seoul origin was a tie for the sixth at the Ford Championship in late March.
“I only missed two fairways,” Lee said. “I think Greens has a lot of help in hitting a lot.”
Kim also ranked 10th and played 7-14 holes at 6-under equal.
There were two strokes from Paraguay’s Sophia Garcia, Australia’s Caris Davidson and Japan’s Aki EY 6. Six players including Andrea Lee, Lone American in the top 11, gave a card of 5-under 67.
Lee, a native of Los Angeles, said, “This was a solid phase.” “I was not really expecting anything in today because I had a very bad cold last week and I am still ending on it. … Just played solid golf, hit some good shots, made a decent amount.”
Defending champion Lilia Wu fought with 5-over 77.
