Going to the all-star break with speed will be important for New York Mets, who have corrected the ship after a record of 12–15 in June.

Mets will look for a second direct win and a series victory against hosts Census City Royals on Saturday afternoon, who do not want to live in the wrong direction leading in the break.

After flowing in a doublehead in Baltimore on Thursday, New York on Friday recorded just two hits in Canasus City after seven innings. Mark Vietos then entered 4-for-34 in 10 games since returning from Hamstring injury, scoring three runs to keep the Mats ahead 4-3. Francisco Lindor added a three -run insurance homer in the ninth, and Juan Soto chased with a single shot as New York won the sixth time in nine matches.

“I don’t care how bad I feel in the plate, I want to be there (in that position),” Vietos told SNY. “Nice to do this for the team.”

Bobby Wit Junior gave Canasus City a two-run lead with a two-run homer on the seventh Friday and is batting with four domestic runs and 14S RBI during the 14-game hitting streak. The necklace broke the four-game winning streak for Royals, who won six of their last seven competitions.

Wit is 1-for-4 with two strikes against New York’s Frankie Montas (1–1, 6.14 ERA), which will start its fourth on Saturday on Saturday after a late strain on June 24 since the onset of its season. The right-handed batsman has allowed 10 runs and 12 hit-four homes in 92/3 innings of his previous two outings.

He gave four runs and five hits without walking on a season-high 5 2/3 innings in the last weekend in the 12-6 win against New York Yankis, but won his first win as a mate.

“I thought I had thrown the ball very well,” said Montas. “My splitter is not really really consistent. I’m working on it. I think it’s going to be difficult to hit when I have that pitch.”

Montas is 3–2, with 3.31 ERAs in five careers.

After allowing nine runs and 19 hits in 15 2/3 innings of its last three starts, Scheduled Cancer Sitter Michael Lorenzen (5-8, 4.61 ERA) was fantastic in seven to seven hits and a walk of seven to seven frames of the Sunday 4–0 victory in Arizona. For the right hand, this was just a second winning decision in their final 12 to start.

Laurengen said, “Was able to focus, keep it slow and continue quality pitches,” there was some difficulty in executing your trademark changeup.

“Hopefully, I can continue that trend with that pitch, because it is my bread and butter.”

In four careers, Lorenzen is 2–0 with 2.61 ERA, which begins against the mates.
