As the Dallas Ruki Guard JJ Quinery placed it, the wings on Thursday “hit the first punch” in their 98–89 win over Phoenix Mercury.

The ball will be in Mercury court when the teams meet for rematch in Phoenix on Monday.

“These are fun games, a fun series,” said Mercury Coach Nat Tibbets. “When you get a team back-to-back, especially the way they came after us. We have to be ready to answer, and I believe in our group.”

The Wings (6–13) used a 32-point first quarter, never lost on Thursday, a win, a win that covered a game series in Episine after a 35-point performance from Pige Bukers in a 93-80 win on 11 June.

Beukers had 23 points and five assistance and Aziaha James had a career-high 28 points including five 3-pointers on Thursday, when the wings started four miscreants.

“We came out and first punched,” Quinali said, who had 17 points and seven assistance. “We quickly woke up the floor, got into infection and got some quick shots. This gave us confidence and we just kept building.”

Kahleh Copper scored a season-high 33 points for mercury in his sixth game, which was from Presence Left Knee Surgery, and former Wing Sato Sabali scored 20 runs in his Dallas Returns.

Prior to the response to the wings, the mercury crossed the 18 points deficiency in the third period four late.

“I thought they were extremely comfortable,” the tibbets said. “And when you allow a team to play comfortable, it’s going to be a long night. We need to be defensively difficult, of course.”

Dallas, winning the fifth time in seven matches, sent Mercury (12-6) for his second direct defeat. The wings shot 61 percent in the first half.

“We are talking about playing 40 minutes,” said Wings Coach Chris Koklan. “(Thursday) was not right, but it was close. We started strong, shared the ball, defended and trusted each other.”

Dallas guard Eric Ogunbole missed his first game on Thursday with a thumb injury, and team partner Dziaini was out with Carrington Rib injury. Both are from normal beginnings.

“We have always been this with us,” said the beukers. “If you look at our games, we are always in it. If we stop better then our records can be flipped. We have this belief, and now it is coming together. It can be someone’s night on any night.”
