Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed the mystery spinner Shivam Shukla of Madhya Pradesh as a replacement of West Indies all -rounder Rowman Powell for the remaining part of IPL 2025, announced a franchise on Sunday. This step confirms that Powell, along with Moen Ali of England, will not return to the rest of the season due to medical issues. “Rowman is undergoing a process,” KKR said in a statement, as the IPL 2025 season resumed after a brief suspension on Saturday.

29-year-old Shukla has a limited experience at a domestic level, who has played only one Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season, where he took eight wickets in several matches, including 4–29 demonstrations against Bengal. He recently made headlines in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League, which ended as the top wicket -taker of the tournament with 10 scale, including the five -wicket race.

Defense of KKR title came to an early end after a washout against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium as a brief suspension due to India-Pakistan border tension on Saturday.

Although the modified schedule has come at a cost, many foreign stars are unavailable to the remaining of the season due to international duties and personal reasons, possibly affecting the team’s combination in the playoff races.

Washout had a significant impact on the IPL 2025 points table. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) topped the top with 17 points out of 12 matches, Gujarat Titans (16 points from 11 matches) and Punjab Kings (15 out of 11 matches), although both Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings will still have a game.

KKR will take Sunrisers Hyderabad in its final league stability at Arun Jaitley Stadium on 25 May next time.
