Manny Machao has grown late for San Diego Padress, who is relying on a short ball to remain competitive in the National League West.
Padress will continue its three-game series against host Millvoki Breves on Saturday night after winning the opener 2–0 on Friday.
As the San Diego proceeded 1–0, Machado started the eighth innings by connecting on a sweeper for his ninth home run of the season and his second in many sports. The 388-foot shot in the left area was Machao’s 351st homer of his career.
Padress has only three domestic runs in their last eight matches, and Machao has all three.
32 -year -old Machado has six domestic runs and 12 RBI in their last 14 matches for the Padress, who have won four of their last six matches.
“This is a team’s attempt every night, but Maini’s very clearly chipping,” said Padress Manager Mike Shild. “He is just taking good batsmen, playing well. He is playing only for the MVP-caliber player who is he.”
Milwauki started 10-game homestand by losing only for the second time in his last 11 matches. Brucers were closed for the seventh time this season on Friday, while the scoring position was going to 1 -for -9 with runners, with 10 runners survived on the base.
Manager Pat Murphy said, “We didn’t get a hit on time.” “Give them credit. They executed and hit the Big Home Run when they needed it in the eighth that changed the game … he was called bullied.”
Christian Yelich had one of the four hits of Milwauki near Yelich. He is batting. 423 (22-for-52) with six homers and 15 RBI during 12-game hitting streak.
On Saturday, the left-handed left-handed Jose will turn to Quintana (4-1, 2.77 ERA). He returned to a shoulder shortage after three weeks last Sunday and allowed two runs in five innings in No-Nine against Philadelphia Philos. Milwauki won 5–2.
Quintana, 36, settled after four walking in the first two innings.
“Little rust,” he said. “I was struggling with my delivery. I did not feel a firm landing on a couple of pitches. After the first innings, I checked my video and gave me a better idea that I was where I was.”
A domestic run against Machao Quintana is 7-for-27 (.259), which is 3–0 with 4.25 ERA (seven start) vs San Diego in nine career games, including 1-0 with 0.73 ERA in two outings in the previous season.
The Padress will compete with the right-handed Stephen Colec (3–1, 3.47), who on Monday gave 5 2/3 scorer innings-three hits against San Francisco veterans. San Diego won 1–0 in 10 innings.
The 28 -year -old Kolek played at least five innings in all six of his six this season and owns 1.04 ERA in four road outing.
“I think a lot of ground balls help me,” he said. “People who are behind us, it is incredible and gives you a lot of confidence to challenge all of you – here it is in the area and lets protect work.”
Colek allows 1–0 in two relief appearances with an unique run, in which three innings were covered against Bruers in their careers.
